Dr. Karpichev is a Senior Researcher at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) since 2015. He received his PhD focused on Physical Organic Chemistry in 2002 (Ukraine) and gained an experience in colloid chemistry, green chemistry, and chemical decontamination during his internship at UCSB (USA) and postdoctoral projects at Dalhousie University (Canada) and European Institute of Chemistry and Biology (France). Previously he was a visiting professor at Université Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier (France) and University of Hradec Králové (Czech Republic). He is a group leader of the team, succeeded the ERA Chair of Excellence project (Chair of Green Chemistry) by Prof. N.Gathergood.
Area of expertise covers chemical reactivity (study of the physical chemistry insight on factors affecting organic reactivity and reaction kinetics in gas phase, water, organic solvents, ILs, and organized molecular systems), chemical decontamination and water treatment (search for green chemistry approaches to replace hazardous chemicals; environmentally friendly versatile decontamination approaches).
Current research of the team is focused on designing green and sustainable surfactants and ionic liquids.
